The SLT Profile

Leadership behaviour and team dynamics profiling for your senior leadership team

You said the same thing to two members of your SLT. Same words, same morning. One of them acted on it. The other went quiet, and you are still not entirely sure why.It is almost never a competence problem. It is that the people in the room have no shared language for how differently they are each built. So the same disagreement returns each term in different clothes, a capable deputy still checks before acting on a decision that is properly theirs, and the standard is held because you are personally holding it.

The situations this is designed for

  • The same disagreement returns to your leadership meeting term after term, and is smoothed over rather than resolved.
  • A capable deputy or assistant head still seeks your approval before acting on decisions that are properly theirs.
  • Messages are delivered clearly and still land differently with different members of staff.
  • New members have joined the team, and the group has not yet learned how it works together.
  • Standards are being held, but they are being held by you personally rather than by the system around you.
  • Two schools, or two teams, have come together and have to function as one.

“The DISC assessment identified my strengths and my challenges. It gave me a better understanding of myself and things I needed to improve on. Shirleyann’s coaching technique enabled me to reflect and become aware of how to improve my work. I had time to develop an action plan during the session with planned time scales.”

Sheba Ahmed, Assistant Headteacher. Following leadership behaviour profiling and an individual coaching debrief.

Two versions of this year

IF NOTHING CHANGES

The team you have this September is, in all likelihood, the team you will have for the rest of this academic year. Whatever is unresolved now is carried through the whole year: the escalations, the repeated conversations, the decisions that return to your desk because nobody is quite certain they are allowed to make them. Your leaders do not build judgement, because yours keeps arriving first.

WITH THIS PROGRAMME, WITHIN A TERM

Your leaders can name what they do under pressure, and what the person opposite them needs in order to hear them. Disagreements are worked through rather than smoothed over. Decisions stop returning to you, because the people closest to the work are confident enough to own them. The standard is held by the team rather than by you personally.

How the programme runs

No INSET day is required. The individual work is completed online, around your team’s own timetable. Your SLT gives up one half day together, and nothing else.

STAGE ONE: Assessment

Each leader completes a personality and behaviour assessment, and a leadership assessment, online and in their own time: about seven minutes each.

STAGE TWO: Individual debrief

A confidential forty-five minute online session with each leader. We unpick their report together, examine how s/he leads, communicates and responds under pressure, and agree the first adaptations s/he will make.

STAGE THREE: The team half day

The one half day in school comes a fortnight later. We work through the combined team dynamics report, examine how the group communicates and where work flows or stalls, and the team agrees how it will work differently.

What is included

  • Two individual reports for every leader, fifteen pages each: personality and behaviour, and leadership style.
  • A forty-five minute confidential online debrief for every leader.
  • A combined team dynamics report: the strengths of each leader and of the team collectively, how the group communicates, where work flows and where it stalls, and how each person shapes the team’s culture.
  • One half day facilitated team session, delivered in school, and no second visit.
  • A conversation with you before we begin, to agree what you most need to be different, and one afterwards to set out what the profiles revealed and what should change.
  • All assessment licences, materials and the written team summary.
